How would you like to pick up trash during lunch time instead of being with your friends for being late to school? Well Samueli Academy has established a new policy now, stating that if you are late/tardy to school you get lunch time trash pick-up duty.
A few of Samueli Academy students have already experienced what trash duty feels like and one of them thinks it’s fair. “I guess it’s fair because when someone is late they interrupt the class and they miss some important things that the teachers were saying,” said Sergio Reyes, freshmen.
Another student disagrees and thinks that trash pick up duty isn’t fair. “I don’t think that it’s fair the way we get trash duty, because we are late,” said Marcos Rodriguez, a Junior. “It should only be for disruptive behavior or if you don’t turn in homework, not for being late.”
Some students are encouraged to not come late in order to not get trash duty. “I think it does make students to make sure they come on time because they don’t like to get trash duty. It makes them feel ashamed,” said Marcos Rodriguez.
Other students were not affected enough by trash duty to do what they should and be on time. “I think it does affect students because I was encouraged to not coming late. But obviously that didn’t last long,” said Sergio Reyes, a Freshmen.
So some students may not be encouraged to be on time, but others are. So it’s your choice to decide whether you want to be on time or to be late with the consequence of trash duty.
