Samueli Academy student youtubers like Yerp team, Trio, Annie Chang, Ruben Bugarin, and Bangerz Only film and edit videos with entertaining content such as challenges and vlogs. The videos are filmed both in school or afterschool, and around the campus or Santa Ana.
“We post videos to hopefully make peoples’ days better and help them smile,” said Juan Mendoza from Bangerz Only, the newest YouTube channel to surface from Samueli, hosted by a pair of 9th graders. Ricardo Vasquez and Juan Mendoza post weekly vlogs showing their school life, friends, and soccer. They film the videos not only for their subscribers, but for themselves as well. “We wanted to see how we change over years,” said Ricardo. They hope to continue to be able to film and throughout their high school career.
Student-ran youtube channels have increased in support, popularity, and views. Bangerz Only already has over 100 subscribers over the past month. Yerp Team has over 50 subscribers, Anne Chang with over 200, Trio has over 20, Ruben Bugarin has over 130 subscribers. The reaction from students has been great. Isabelle Cervantes says, “I see no reason to not support.” Many students offer content ideas for the youtube videos and give feedback for the channels. For example, just recently Bangerz Only reached to their followers via Instagram. The channel asked if any viewers would like to be apart of an upcoming skit.
Bangerz Only hopes to have a successful future with their channel. “We hope to have better content and become more developed,” said both Bangerz Only members. “We love the support and hope to increase our popularity.” The boys will try to continue for posting for all four years and into their post-high-school lives. They don’t see youtube as their main career, but as a possible side career.
YouTubers at Samueli Academy are up and coming. The student will be able to practice time management and new skills. Isabelle Cervantes says “YouTube is a good idea and would offer a new skill set for a student”.
