With the year coming to the end a new chapter will unfold. Accompanied by clubs including geek club, art club, E-Sports, photography, club, girls empowerment, chess club, robotics, food club, and so much more. Will they be making an appearance next year or will there be new clubs to take their places?
Since Samueli is a fairly new school, it still has lots of room to grow and therefore more and more clubs should be introduced. For instance, “The clubs at our school are great but I wish we included a wrestling club or maybe even key club,” said Sean Rodreguez. “I would really enjoy it if our school had an official dance team,” said Leila Pozzi. Yet, before all those clubs could even become one there are a set of rules that have to be followed. The first step would be to find a staff member who agrees to be the club advisor. Next, makes sure to pick up a petition for organizing a new club in the den. Not to mention, with this petition you need at least 15 members to sign it. Then, you would present your petition to the ASB board on Tuesday morning at the ASB meetings. Once approved you will have to write and file the club constitution. Make sure to elect officers and complete an elected club officer handout. Lastly develop, approve, sign, and date the budget sheet for the current year and TA-DAA there you go, folks, that is how you can create an official club here at Samueli Academy.
Going forward at Samueli we strive to have clubs for many reasons. The first would be to “provide the opportunity to develop socially by engaging in activities which develop and strengthen character, leadership skills, and social skills,” according to the Samueli Activities Handbook. Also, having clubs “provide additional activities and experiences outside the classroom that broaden the interests, awareness, and knowledge of students in ways that would not otherwise be achieved,” as stated by the Samueli Activities Handbook. With that participating in clubs is key in teaching us about TRUST, RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY.
Moving forward giving a sneak peek for the new year clubs that will be appearing are art club, helping hands, M.U.N., geek club, choir, and potentially more. But with that said would you create a new club?
