As we are heading into the new school year, Mr.Saba will no longer be our head of school. We are now going to welcome Ms. Lee Fleming as our new head of school.
The reason why Mr. Saba will no longer be with us is because he got promoted to become the executive director. He will now be working on different procedures, such as working on our upcoming buildings.
Her position before this was a principal for a small high school in North County, San Diego. She never planned on becoming head of school saying “No, I never planned on that because it kind of seemed like a job for people who were really different from me. But I used to have a job where I traveled around the country to work with schools and I realized that there were a lot of ways to be a school administrator and I didn't have to be like everyone else.” Coming in with a positive attitude is what student most look for as well as having a difference in a good way.
How did she become more interested in the education field? “I feel like education chose me! I started substitute teaching in Los Angeles Unified to pay back my student loans after college and I was surprised to find out that I loved being in the classroom.” Throughout her experiences, she ended up having an interest in education so she made this reality. This can be important for students to know since these four years are to find what interests us the most.
Something every student must wonder is what changes will there be for the future of our school and what can students suggest? “What changes would I do to improve the quality of school working environment. I would focus on reviewing the school’s purpose, values, and principles with teachers and especially students to see the opportunities we have at this school to keep promoting it to a thriving future” said by Edsel Lara. There are plenty of changes someone can have, but Ms. Lee Fleming thinks this is a great school and that no one should be thinking she is going to come in and changes things. Although “I plan to try to really understand what the staff and students want and then work together to help us be best we can be and meet our goals. I believe I am pretty good at making things happen”
“I think she will be the kind director that will take a full effort to improve the quality of the student and staff environment. Moreover so, I think some qualities that she will be able to take are precautions about what decision she will make and listen to student and staff voices to make” said by Edsel Lara. Having the students and staffs opinions about certain things with changes or anything in general with school activities, she said she was good at making things happen. Having a principal that is willing to listen and create relationships with the students and staff is important to the three words our school focuses on, trust, responsibility, and respect.
“I don't really think about what I will be doing in the future as much as how I can make a difference to the people I serve. I am hopeful that I can build positive relationships with the people at Samueli and that I can share some of what I have learned in a way that feels helpful to the community.” The future will have many great activities, or situations coming our way. Meanwhile, let us enjoy this year and welcome Ms. Lee Fleming to the pack as the new leader of our pack.
