Samueli Academy had 5 new students join the pack during the beginning of the second semester.
Being the new kid isn't the easiest thing in the world. Welcoming them is something important, so they can feel included in the school’s society. The 5 new students are Jacqueline Vargas, Fernando Vargas, Brandon Mejia, Erick Ruiz, and Rayne Marsal.
They each have a different reason for why they changed schools. Some changed because the school was located closer to their house and others changed because of the opportunities Samueli Academy brings.
Freshman, Jacqueline Vargas, came from Acaciawood Preparatory Academy. The reason for her changing schools was because she wants to have a bright future.
“I changed school because I saw that there were more opportunities like engineering programs and I'm looking forward to major in Biochemical Engineering and my other school didn’t have that.” says Jacqueline Vargas. She likes to expand her knowledge.
“I like this school because it is project based learning which causes students to learn more,” said Jacqueline Vargas. She thought the new change was something good.
“The second semester is a fresh new start and it was pretty intense at first because everything is really new and the computers is something I wasn’t used to,” said Jacqueline Vargas.
Jacqueline is the type of person that you would find studying and at first she is timid, but once you get to know her she is a fun girl.
Sophomore, Fernando Vargas, also went to Acaciawood Preparatory Academy as well. He is Jacqueline’s brother.
He said, “This school has better opportunities and better programs like the engineering track.” As you can see he changed school to focus on his future career, just like his sister.
He felt welcomed right away at Samueli Academy. “The new change was strange, but everyone is friendly, so you fit in right away,” he says.
“I like this school because teachers know what they're doing,” he said. This is an important factor when it comes to Samueli Academy teaching bases.
Fernando Vargas said, “I would describe myself as a funny person and my favorite sport is basketball.” Someone should go shoot some hoops with him sometime.”
Freshman, Brandon Mejia, went to Garden Grove High School.
His reason for attending Samueli Academy was different than Jacqueline’s and Fernando’s. “My mom heard about this school so that is why I came here,” he says. His motive for moving was because of distance reasons. Brandon changed schools because Samueli was closer to his house and coming into a new school during the second semester was difficult for him to catch up to everything.
Entering a new school during the second semester is difficult. Brandon Mejia said, “I like this school because there is less people.” Class size is something Samueli Academy is known for.
These are student like you and me. If you see them in the hall go up to them and say hey or become their new best friend.
