When running, there are various requirements such as having a 3.0 GPA or higher,no D's or F’s and they have to be in ASB/Leadership (the elective) next year. They have to fill out an application where they have to answer some questions about leadership and have various of recommendation from their advisory teacher, Administrator, or Teachers\Staff. In the application they would need to make a resumé, and have to follow the ASB Code of Conduct which includes Academic Achievement (maintain a 3.0 GPA unweighted and not D’s or F’s and if received they will be dismissed from ASB), Behavioral Standards (have a good sportsmanship), and Responsibility of Office(be responsible for working on projects and homework assigned).
The candidates seem to follow this requirement already. "I think they're all good candidates in their own aspects because everybody really smart and everybody really kind. Everybody I think will put forth an effort to make the school better,” said Freshmen Class President Kira Baker.
Candidates have many reasons for running like adding it to their resumé for colleges to look at but it's mostly because of the environment of ASB and school.” I really fell in love with just getting involve in this school and just seeing the work that I put in blossom around the school,” said Freshman Class President, Kira Baker.
Like Kira Baker, Natasha Curry enjoys the vibe ASB gives off, "The reason why I’m running again is because I really enjoy how we are really connected in ASB; like we plan events for the school,”said Freshman Vice-President, Natasha Curry.
Candidates had a lot of work as part of the requirements for the campaign. They make posters, put their name on things, or hand out things to persuade the students to vote for them. “What I’m going to do is make posters with sayings on it,” said Natasha Curry, Freshman ASB Vice President. But the main goal in campaigning is: “to get your name out,” Kira Baker, Freshmen ASB President.
In ASB not only the candidates are important, the students (voters) have a tremendous importance in the ASB elections. "I want a member that is social and easy to talk to," said Freshman, Jocelyn Martinez.
Depending who the voter, the voter might pick the candidate for different reasons. “Most of the time students, pick their friends but I just look at who they are and what they represent,” said Freshman, Jocelyn Martinez.
In the perspective of ASB, Kira Baker says,“Students want someone that who embodies our school missions and somebody everybody can relate to. Somebody that makes our school better.” Make sure to follow up on the Candidates. Voting will be May 2 and 3 in Advisory.
