On December 13, January 11, 22, and the 30 there has been an information night for 8th graders who are thinking of coming to this school. Upcoming information will be February 8, 13, 21 and March 1. 8th graders and parent are going to this to sign into a sheet and learn new and more information about this school. But what do they think of this school and what did they talk about during this information night?
“I think it’s a good innovative school with an interesting approach. And I like the fact that the student body is small.” One of the parents, James Naismith said. From this opinion said by a parent, it sounds like he had an interesting thought about Samueli Academy.. This school is described unique because a regular high school has over 1000 students and Samueli Academy only has around 500 students altogether.
During Information Night they also mentioned how the school approaches teaching in a different way. For instance, here we do not use textbooks because the second they are bought they become outdated. However at Samueli, we give every student a Chromebook because we trust our students, Saba stated during Information Night. This school is also project-based learning. ”I think the idea of computers is a more futuristic way of learning and could enhance learning,” said Spencer Naismith an 8th grader. ”And I think that working in group is a very interesting concept because it helps you experiencing new things”
When we have a presentation where we have to dress up formally to helps us practice in the future for job interviews and so on. During the presentation we also have people from outside our school come and watch our presentations.
Spencer said, “I find it to be helpful for future presentation, knowing that that is the proper thing to be wearing” Samueli’s campus is also pretty special since we have donors that donate money so we can pay for nice furniture for the campus. For example, we have chairs with wheels in every classroom, and nice furniture in the comments rooms. James stated that he liked the campus yet he couldn't wait to see the rest built.
A current freshman at Samueli, Annie Chang, says “Do your work on time and study for tests and you will succeed but if not then you will fall behind” One of the main thing at Samueli is that we specialize in teaching Engineering and Design. So we have teachers that specialize in teaching that subject. Spencer said, “I find it very interesting because if you would like to learn more about that subject you can. In this case Engineering and Design because you will have the right teachers to help you learn new things in”
Spencer Naismith Stated that he choose this school because he wanted to learn more about Engineering and Design, and maybe go the Engineering Pathway. His father wanted him to go to this school because he wanted his son to go to a school where was no report on drugs and bullying like other schools. ”I would rate this school a 10/10 because I can’t find anything that I don’t like about this school,” said Spencer Naismith.
”I would rate it an 8/10 because it’s a work in progress,” said James Naismith.
So far there has been quite a few of these information nights, as March comes closer and closer to when the lottery is happening. But as the year is coming to an end there are 8th already signing up to be the new freshman at Samueli for next year.
