Attention, Attention ! Incoming juniors who are concerned about college, read up.
Mrs. Rocio discovered a program that would help students learn and discover some best colleges. The ACE is a new program that UCI students come and offer their knowledge about what it’s like being in college . Mary, who is in charge, got the idea from her mother: "My mom would help other people and that inspire me which led me on creating this program.”
As a participant in the ACE program, you'll be able to go on field trips. During spring break, we were invited to take a tour around UCI. Some history background on UCI; their mascot is an Anteater. They have a huge campus, and students can be able to stay on-campus housing (A.K.A dorms or commute from home). For dorms, students have the option to either live with 2 to 3 people or individual. There is a lot of stores around the campus and cafeterias to fill up your hungry tummy. Also, at campus housing, students have their own kitchen to create incredible unique dishes and if your clothes are smelling a little stinky and mom's not around you can use the washing machine but make sure you have laundry change.
Meetings are every Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:00. During the meeting, we are partnered with a mentor, which might have the same major you are interested in or close. You'll be able to ask them as many questions you would like and also, you'll be making college friendships, how cool is that! Spiro Basdakis, Junior said, “The program is very informative because they help explain college while they are in college, it gives a good perspective. "On some Tuesdays, they have a game day, which instead of working on informative paperwork, you get to relax and hang out with your mentor. Andrea Antonio, Junior said, "I like game day a lot and beating my mentor at games.”
The program also offers a scholarship a range between $200-500. The requirements that are needed to get the scholarship is going to every meeting and going to 2 out of the 3 field trips, it's that simple! Sophomores if you are reading this, join ACE program next year, you’ll create a bond with college students, learn and decided what colleges suits you, and also you'll have so much fun. Taliah, a mentor said, “I join this so I would teach high school students about college and I wish someone did the same to me."
