The girls’ soccer season has begun at Samueli Academy. Soccer provides students with a way to be more active in afterschool activities. The girls are attending practice everyday after school.
The coach at Samueli Academy has been a soccer coach for 5 years: “I’ve played soccer all my life,” said Coach Espinosa. “So I decided to become a soccer coach."
Soccer is a popular sport among students and their families in Santa Ana: “I decided to join soccer because it runs in the family,” said freshman Thais Diaz.
Many have been playing since they were children: “I started at a very young age, so I’m used to it,” said junior Lauren Castaneda.
The girls have been practicing and improving their skills as many ways as possible. “I come to practice everyday and I’m trying harder, way harder,” said Thais Diaz.
Some people choose to get help from multiple people. It’s always good to have multiple people to help teach you different techniques to improve your skills. “I have cousins who play soccer, so they show me different techniques,” said Victoria Rivas.
“I do a lot of running with my cousins outside of practice,” said Lauren. “And just a lot of conditioning to help me improve my skills.”
The coach is certain that he will come across some difficulties throughout the season. “We just have to work through them,” said Coach Espinosa, “That’s how life is, you run through difficulties.”
Although he is sure that he will run into difficulties he is very optimistic about this season. “I want to win as many games as possible with the JV team, hopefully a tournament first place,” said Coach Espinosa. His goal with the Frosh team is to help them develop their skills.
The teams have been established. Everyone tried hard to earn a spot on the team. That was the main goal that was trying to be met. But that wasn’t the only goal.
“My goal is to make it on the team,” said Victoria. “After that I want to make sure that I keep my grades up and make sure that I’m not falling behind.”
Everyone is looking forward to the new season. They are hoping for the best they can achieve this season. They are practicing hard and trying their best in order to accomplish that.
“I can’t wait to play and I can’t wait to have a first game,” said Coach Espinosa.
