Would you join the Guitar Club? The Guitar Club’s creator is Nathian Soto, who is a junior here at Samueli Academy. In this club, you get to learn how to play the guitar. They meet during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or after school on Fridays, in room 15. You have a chance to learn from someone who has experience with guitars. The club’s founder comes with experience, and wanted an outlet at Samueli for his interest “This school doesn’t have enough time to play guitar... so I made a club for it,” said Nathian, which is why he made the club.
Anyone who wants to join the club could learn how to play any song they want to focus on. “If he or she wanted to learn Jazz, we can learn Jazz,” states Nathian Soto. He got the idea to make the club from talking to his counselor about joining the Music Appreciation class and she recommended him to start a music club. By making this club, he has made students from Samueli Academy more comfortable, like Juan Ramirez, freshman, who stated that, ”Joining this club would benefit me because I would meet new people with familiar hobbies.” Juan hasn’t played the guitar before, but is a fan of electric guitars. “I never played the guitar before.. that’s why I want to join the club,” he expresses. He also thinks that, “It’s a fun way to express yourself to music.” This is important because everyone should feel that way towards music. Although, not everyone feels that way. For example, Luis Medina, who is someone that wouldn’t join the club believes, “It’s a waste of time, it also takes a long time to practice.” Luis is currently in Cross Country and stated that,”I don’t have enough time.” He would prefer to learn to play the flute instead of the guitar because that’s what he’s more into. “Don’t get me wrong, the club is a good idea, but maybe it shouldn’t just be based on guitars.”
The club was approved by Celeste Duran, of ASB, who is in charge of clubs and organizations. She stated, “This was the only club that was really interested in getting started.” Celeste talked to other members of the ASB to see if they also would like approve the club. She said, “I don’t think there’s any other club that’s music based.” Basically it’s a one of a kind.
As you can tell, Guitar Club is a really cool club inspiring others to be themselves. Nathian Soto, the creator of the club, would appreciate others joining, to learn and appreciate the art of guitars. He mostly spends his time in room 15 during lunch, so be sure to stop and ask him any questions about the club.
