What is the 3rd gender you might ask? Well, recently California declared a 3rd gender which allows us to recognize non-binaries. Which makes us the first state to declare a third gender on birth certificate and driver's license all at once.
Also, the definition of “Non-Binary” are people who do not identify as male or female. In addition, this will allow the choice of the third gender on driver’s licenses, state identification cards, and state identification paper.
On October 22 of 2017 Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed the Gender Recognition Act. Which will take effect before September first of 2018. This 3rd gender will also help transgender people change their gender identification more easily.
As state Sen. Toni Atkins said, “The Gender Recognition Act will eliminate unnecessary stress and anxiety for many Californians, and it exemplifies the leadership role that our state continues to take in LGBTQ civil rights.” Therefore, saying this the 3rd gender will help reduce that mass of not accepting other and for the person that is non-binary to feel more valid. Furthermore, any Californian that request for the new gender will be able to legally change their birth certificates into the option known as “intersex.”
In conclusion, the identification of the 3rd gender has a huge impact for it allows people to be identified as non-binary. “I for one thinks it’s great on how people are allow to express who they want to be instead of being female or male. And that other will be able to recognize them instead of calling them transgender,” said Leila Pozzi. So after all of this are you really for the 3rd gender.
