Picture this. After many hours, you look in the mirror and say, “ You look fa “boo” lous.” Get ready Firewolves, it's officially spooky season! Halloween is fastly approaching and most of us are still trying to find costumes. When there is no time to shop or no costumes that peaks an interest, you’re left feeling stressed and unfestive for this ghoulish night. To prevent this, there are many costume trends and fun, quick DIYs that are great for costumes.
Costume Trends
Halloween costumes have been greatly influenced by trends. Costume trends can reflect a time period, an ongoing event, social media figures, and most commonly tv shows and movies. Costume trends have varied from cute, scary, and sexy over the years. Last year, (2016)  many costumes had combined cute with scary, and cute with sexy. For example, there was sexy pikachu, rag-dolls, and cute zombies. Most of these costumes have stayed famous over the years but, have varied in style each year. For example, superheroes have been used as costumes but, come in new suits and styles every year. This year, (2017) there are many costumes inspired by tv shows and movies. Popular costumes this year are predicted to be Eleven from Stranger Things, Rick or Morty from Rick and Morty, any Star Wars characters, and Georgie or Pennywise from It.

Fun, Easy, and Quick DIYs
DIYs have been dominating the costume world! DIYs can be fun, easy and quick. DIYs can vary from cheap to expensive based on the costume. Some Samueli students have created DIY costumes over the past Halloweens. Evelyn Antunez, a freshman,  has been DIYing costumes for two years. “I have been an m&m and Harley Quinn.” said Evelyn. She has recently started  DIYing but, Justin Pascua has been making costumes for seven years. Justin’s favorite costume has been Chewbacca. He has also made Steve from Minecraft and a ghost. Justin loves DIYs and says, “ You have to use your creativity, resources, and imagination, and you can make it unique”. There are plenty of other DIYs to choose from and many inspirations for costumes. Pinterest and youtube videos ( recommend LaurDIY) are great resources to find ideas for costumes.
