Many people have different points of views on horror movies. Some enjoy horror movies others despise horror movies, but “How can people tolerate horror movies?”, “ Why are horror movies popular?”, and “What makes horror movies so great?”
There is a variety of perspectives people have and how can horror movies attract the public.
“Horror movies are the devil itself,” said Luz Mendoza.
Many enjoy horror movies and others just don't like them, but what's the reason behind the different opinions. People aren’t capable of saying why they dislike or like horror movies, and can not give a solid answer because they themselves didn’t know. So what makes horror movies so great? and what ages does it target? It is possible that the plot works throughout the movie makes it great and maybe anyone can be at risk of being targeted by horror movies.
There are a variety of horror genres and some movies that terrify people aren’t really considered as horror movies. People are targeted because of the unusual endings that leave you gripping the seat, or out of curiosity.
Curiosity is key when it comes to horror movies. One becomes curious as to what happens next, who’s gonna die, or when the next jump scare is, but most importantly how the unimaginable can come to life in front of us.
“People become curious about what they can't see or what they don't know. Like supernatural movie mention demons and provide the information that can be connected to demons,” said Luz Mendoza.
Others would say that boredom can lead to watching horror movies because it provides the slow motion, and the “what happens next?” The question that repeats over and over in our mind as the dark images flash before the screen. It provides a different ending, unlike other movies.
“I was bored of all the happy endings so I started watching horror movies”- Isabel says
Picture sitting alone on the couch watching the scene unfold in front of you. The victim sitting alone in a dark murky room with no windows. The claw marks left in red that decorates the floor. It trails to the bloody scent of the rotten flesh stings their lungs just by the expression they make. Having the blood rush through their veins as they turn pale. You're on the other side of the screen watching the scenes unfold, sinking into the pillow as you see the signs of the next jump scare. The thrill and impatience just to get over with the scene. The sense of adventure from just sitting on your couch.
With horror movies being released it’s no surprise that it would be that way until people find a new form of entertainment. But for now, like in the past, many continue to watch horror movies and will target many different ages and make us wonder what really makes a horror movie great?
There are many different types of personalities. Some may like horror movies while others dislike them, but the key root of watching horror movies comes from the type of person we are.
