Do video games affect the grades of students? How many times have you forgotten to do homework since you were up playing video games? According to a study by Robert Weis students who play video games spend 30% less time doing their homework. Video games are affecting the way students are performing in school.
Some people play video games for up to 1 through 20 hours non stop. According to a college survey by UCLA “about 1 percent of students taking the survey play over 20 hours of video game per week over 35 percent play 1 hour per week”. According to the same survey “, 25% of males admitted to playing more than 20 hours of video games”. “I stop playing video games because I wasn't paying attention to the homework I had,” said Liliana. Video games are distracting students from doing their work. Some students chose to stop playing video games because there affecting their grades too much.
People might say that video games aren't the only cause of students doing badly in school. They are correct but video games are bigger distractions. "So I think anything can distract a student; the problem with video games is that they can be really addictive and I think video games can be a bigger distraction if you happen to like video games," said Dr. Peter Stevephenson. This shows that video games can be a huge distraction and they can also be extremely addictive. Video games are a bigger threat than other things like tv, social media, or youtube videos because video games are a lot easier to get addicted to. Once you start playing it will be hard to put down the controller down.
Huge video games like fortnite are affecting the way students study and do their homework.
“I started playing fortnite and now I don't do my homework or study for my test until I get to school,” said Moises. This shows that games distract students from doing their academic work. “I had to stop playing video games for a while because I wouldn't do my homework it was hard to stop,” said Christopher. This shows that video games can be extremely addictive and can end up distracting students. Video games like fortnite are starting to distract students from doing their homework. Video games are becoming a huge problem for teenagers. But that doesn't mean you need to stop gaming completely. There are ways you can play your video games and do your homework. “I started timing myself for 1 hour when playing video games and then after 1 hour I would start on my homework,” said Christopher. Many people fall victim to video games but that doesn't mean you should too. Always remember to do your homework first and the game later.
