Do you think technology is harmful in any way? There are many ways to keep a relationship healthy, and technology certainly isn’t a positive factor.
Technology has increased exponentially over the years and it has had many different effects, some amazing while some are detrimental. Studies show that is is much easier to damage a relationship/friendship online. The reason being it can lead to a misunderstanding because it is difficult to pick up on subtle nuances that just can’t be conveyed through text. Relationships are very affected by technology. It is apparent that technology is a great tool to humans, however, it’s simultaneously threatening to push us further apart. Also, technology is not only damaging relationships, it is also harming people's mental state. People that are constantly using heavy amounts of technology have shown to fall into depression
“I personally believe that technology does have a big impact on how relationships are affected,” Alejandra Escalera says. “Relationships are becoming unhealthy as we continue to spend more time using technology because there is not much communication going on,” she said. This shows how technology has come to have a negative impact on relationships. Communication is always key to a healthy relationship, and technology is interfering with that. Technology is interfering with a healthy relationship because people become isolated in a world where their main priority is being on the internet or any other social apps, that they stop communicating.
Many people rely on social media, text message, and other apps when they need to send a message. “I used a lot of texts and social media to communicate with people, and would just also spend a lot of my time using Instagram and Snapchat,” says anonymous. “I personally do believe that technology has a negative impact on relationships because it happened to me,” she said. “I wasn't building relationships, and all my other ones were damaged because of miscommunication.” Some people have come to realize that it is important to lay off technology, and communicate with others face to face. It is way easier to damage a healthy relationship/friendship when a large amount of technology is involved.
However, technology is not only affecting relationships, it is also harming people's mental health. Studies have shown that heavy use of social media has had a negative impact on the user's mental health. “I believe that it is possible to fall into depression when you use a heavy amount of technology for a long amount of time,” says Karen Manjarrez. “I believe this would happen because they have become isolated,” she says. Also, the studies link social media use with mood swings and life satisfaction. These studies link them together because they become addicted to using technology.
In conclusion, technology has proven to be harmful. Technology is no good for people, and they should not be spending a lot of time using it.
