How can the voices of parents and community members be heard? The first Thursday of every month, Samueli Academy hosts an event in the morning called Coffee With the Head of School
Coffee With the Head of the School is where people are given a chance to impact change, and give feedback about the school. “They can bring up anything they want from school policies, to ideas, questions and concerns, praise, what we're doing well, and what we could do better. Things like that so it’s just an opportunity for parents to sit with me and talk about our school,” said Anthony Saba, the head of the school.
During this time, the people attending this meeting are given a brief update about the current events going on in the school before they are given a chance to voice their thoughts or ask questions. “I like to hear from students and parents because sometimes they see things differently and make me realize things that I never realized before. I don’t see what they see, so I can hear opinions and ideas from a different angle and it helps form a better school,” said Anthony Saba. The meetings give the parents a chance to help change and better the school life of the students here at Samueli Academy.
On one occasion during the Coffee With the Head of the School, a parent brought up that their child was feeling stressed out because there were so many presentations going on at the same time. This helped the staff make decisions about when they should administrate presentations, so that they won’t overwork the students.
The feedback gained through these sessions could help with the school life of students here at Samueli Academy. Parents and community members just need to make their voices known, and during the Coffee With the Head of the School that is possible. To help make an impact on the lives of students at Samueli Academy be sure to come to the meetings. Come on the first Thursday of every month at 8:15 am.
