Mr. Sheppard never seems to have a typical day. “ For Athletics, I am calling schools, coordinating games, scheduling referees, checking students’ grades... every day seems to be different, whether it is a game day or preseason, or even right now, since we’re in the transition of seasons.” He works hard everyday to get things done; that is the way he works and he will always be like that.
His career will always be working with the youth, “I enjoy working with the kids, building connections, and see students grow and gain new skills.” He has always wanted to work with kids since the beginning, but he never thought or expected he would be an Athletics Director.“ I always thought I was going to be a high school teacher and coach. That was something I always thought of since graduating college.” He never knew that this would be his career, but life sometimes can surprise you. Mr. Sheppard’s favorite moments at Samueli involve student athletes excelling“...it gives the opportunity for the kids to step on the court or field, and letting them play.”
According to Mr. Sheppard, the 2016 Fall season was a success. “I’m going to miss seeing the teams [Girls Volleyball and Cross Country] work together, for us, being a small school and not having the experience as other schools, it gives us the first half of the season to build the experience to bond as a team.”
Sheppard is glad that he is working here as an Athletics Director here at Samueli Academy, and the Firewolves are just as glad, too. We all can see that he works hard as the Athletic Director, as good as he does controlling his sheep. His love and passion here at Samueli is one of the reasons we have so much school spirit. Being an Athletics Director can be a tough job, but Sheppard makes it look like a piece of cake. Samueli will be a special place for him. “Here at Samueli, we’re a family of 500, ...we get to know each other at some point...but when we become a larger group, we are the Firewolves.”
